What is divorce mediation?
Divorce mediation is a process where couples contemplating separation and divorce, are able to discuss their issues, desires, and thoughts with a neutral, third-party facilitator, in order to develop and create a comprehensive divorce settlement. The settlement encompasses how to divide martial assets and debts, set any potential spousal support, arrange a child custody schedule, and determine an amount for child support. The end result yields you an enforceable agreement, that is legally binding, without the stress, fighting, and unnecessary and expensive involvement of lawyers and the court system.
How does it work?
At Family Mediation LLC, we believe in providing you with a clear expectation of how the mediation works, and streamlining the mediation process to make things easier, less stressful, and more cost efficient for you.
Typically, we start with a complimentary consultation, which can either be done in person or over the phone, to discuss your situation, and better learn your needs and expectations. After your free consultation, we arrange to exchange any required financial documentation, and select a mediation date and time. Your mediator will guide your discussion at mediation to discuss options, and facilitate a comprehensive settlement.
How do I prepare?
There is no one way to adequately prepare for a mediation. Some mediations require an exchange of financial documentation to better understand what assets and debts are to be divided in advance, other mediations are best suited by the parties contemplating what child custody schedules may work best for them.
At Family Mediation LLC, we value our initial consultation as a way of discussing and understanding your case in advance, so that we may determine what documents, if any, need to be exchanged in advance, and to discuss options to both parties on how to best be prepared and open to mediating and reaching resolution.
