Professional background
Before founding Adkins Law in 2014, Chris served more than six years as a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, earning Intermediate and Advanced Law Enforcement Certificates from the North Carolina Department of Justice. He also served as a combat engineer officer (Captain) in the North Carolina Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, including a deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait from 2012 to 2013, where he oversaw construction projects following the Iraq drawdown. Those years of managing conflict under pressure shape how he runs a mediation: steady, prepared, and focused on solutions rather than blame.
As an attorney, he has represented clients in hundreds of family law and civil matters in North Carolina, which gives parties the benefit of a mediator who understands how their issues are typically resolved in court, while leaving every decision to them.
Education and credentials
- J.D., Oklahoma City University School of Law
- M.B.A., Louisiana State University
- M.C.J., Boston University
- B.S., Criminal Justice, Appalachian State University
- Certificate in Terrorism Studies, University of St Andrews
- Admitted to practice in the North Carolina state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
Mediation philosophy
Lasting agreements come from understanding, not from winning an argument. A mediator cannot represent or advise either party, but a mediator can make sure both sides are heard, that the numbers and schedules are accurate, and that the agreement they sign will still make sense a year from now. Clients often describe his style as calm, balanced, and direct.
